Differential Equations with Modelling (G5148)

15 credits, Level 5

Spring teaching

This module builds on the Ordinary Differential Equations module, where you have first studied differential equations. You will learn where differential equations come from. You will also study further methods to solve ordinary differential equations and to understand their behaviour.

Finally, you will go onto partial differential equations, which have partial derivatives with respect to multiple variables. Youwill study first order partial differential equations (with first order partial derivatives) in this module only; higher order partial differential equations will be the topic of optional modules in Year 3.

Teaching

100%: Lecture

Assessment

20%: Coursework (Portfolio, Problem set)
80%: Examination (Unseen examination)

Contact hours and workload

This module is approximately 150 hours of work. This breaks down into about 39 hours of contact time and about 111 hours of independent study. The 5X社区视频 may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We鈥檙e planning to run these modules in the academic year 2024/25. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.

We鈥檒l make sure to let you know of any material changes to modules at the earliest opportunity.
