Applied Research I: Project Design (Q9130)

Autumn teaching

Students are encouraged to think more explicitly about relationships between their studies and the application of research across a wide range of fields in response to diverse sets of challenges. Emphasis is placed squarely on how arts, humanities and social sciences approaches can be used to develop creative solutions to complex problems. In this module they focus on different case studies, critically reflecting on how and why different strategies in different professions and disciplines have been used in response to different problems. Examples might be: 1) how artists have tried to rewire the exploitative economies of the art world in order to create money and opportunities for the disenfranchised groups they make art about; 2) how urban space has been designed to nurture community bonds; 3) or how climate change can be examined through innovative social media activity. Students will gain a practical insight into the conception, development and delivery of different projects, in ways that will assist with the Final Project in Terms 2.

Contact hours and workload

This module is approximately 300 hours of work. This breaks down into about 22 hours of contact time and about 278 hours of independent study. The 5X社区视频 may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.
