Clinical Legal Education (M3033)

30 credits, Level 6

Autumn and spring teaching

This module combines several legal clinics and pro-bono projects, giving you both a practical and academic understanding of these initiatives. It has two main focuses, each tied to a key assessment:

  • you’ll learn about the history and evolution of pro-bono and legal clinic projects, both in the UK and globally. These sessions, mostly in a lecture format, will help you understand the context and prepare you for your individual pro-bono project. Your first assessment (A1) will reflect this academic focus
  • you’ll participate in your own pro-bono project. Working within a specific clinic, you’ll engage directly with legal work, discuss your experiences in seminars, and reflect on your contributions

This module combines academic study with hands-on experience, helping you critically analyse and actively participate in legal pro-bono work.

Contact hours and workload

This module is approximately 300 hours of work. This breaks down into about 42 hours of contact time and about 258 hours of independent study. The 5X社区视频 may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We鈥檙e planning to run these modules in the academic year 2024/25. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.

We鈥檒l make sure to let you know of any material changes to modules at the earliest opportunity.
