Educating Children and Young People: Linking Theory and Professional Skills (X3257)
15 credits, Level 5
Spring teaching
This module provides theoretical knowledge and practical skills for working with young people to explore different justice issues relevant to their lives. You will engage with a range of theories and pedagogical approaches that seek to establish democratic, inclusive and participatory forms of education.
The module emphasises professional responsibility, collaboration, reflective practice and safeguarding of young people. You will research, design and deliver Personal, Social, Health Education (PSHE) sessions with secondary school students. These will focus on building relationships that embrace difference (not discriminate or exclude). You will do this by engaging with issues relevant to the young people’s lives and, where relevant, linking local lives to others on the planet.
