Translating Media and Humanities (961Q3)

Autumn teaching
In this module, you’ll examine translating and interpreting texts in the media and humanities. We’ll be using an interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approach.
Aiming to reflect on of politics of/in translation, we’ll look at:
- news coverage
- documentaries
- films
- literary works
- art images transferred into texts.
Alongside this, you’ll develop practical translation skills, such as subtitling and ekphrasis techniques used in media, marketing and advertising.
You’ll build a comprehensive portfolio. This will include translations, analytical commentaries and reflections on approaches.

Contact hours and workload
This module is approximately 300 hours of work. This breaks down into about 33 hours of contact time and about 267 hours of independent study. The 5X社区视频 may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.
