Autumn teaching

Qualitative research methods address a variety of topics across range of psychology subdisciplines, including:

  • social
  • health
  • medical
  • clinical
  • developmental.

This module provides you with training and hands-on experience of using qualitative research methods, helping you to use these approaches with confidence.

It covers the main qualitative data-gathering approaches (including interviews, focus group discussions and secondary data gathering) and methods of qualitative analysis (from thematic analysis to forms of discourse analysis).

You’ll explore the strengths, weaknesses and practical considerations for different approaches to particular topics. You will also look at the issues of quality in qualitative research and how to write up a qualitative research study.

Contact hours and workload

This module is approximately 150 hours of work. This breaks down into about 29 hours of contact time and about 121 hours of independent study. The 5X社区视频 may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.
