Advanced Green Chemistry and Organic Synthesis (F1608)

15 credits, Level 7 (Masters)

Autumn teaching

Organic synthesis is vital to the prosperity of multiple industries. Yet to carry out synthesis at scale has the potential to harm living organisms and cause irreversible damage to the environment.

On this module, you’ll discover how to transform organic synthesis using the 12 principles of green chemistry. You’ll also learn about more sustainable manufacturing processes for a modern world. The use of renewable raw materials, more energy efficient processes, and the reduction of waste and toxic materials will enable you to put the effect on the environment at the forefront of new reaction and reactor design. This will lessen the impact of human activity on our ecosystem.

Contact hours and workload

This module is approximately 160 hours of work. This breaks down into about 32 hours of contact time and about 128 hours of independent study. The 5X社区视频 may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We鈥檙e planning to run these modules in the academic year 2024/25. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.

We鈥檒l make sure to let you know of any material changes to modules at the earliest opportunity.
