Media, Culture and Communication (802P4)

30 credits, Level 7 (Masters)

Spring teaching

On this module, you’ll explore principal theories and methods within a cultural studies approach to media. You’ll consider how these shape the ways we might think about and research particular questions to do with media culture and communication.

The module begins with a focus on media texts, and their production, distribution and consumption. In the latter part of the course, we pay attention to a variety of methodological approaches which draw attention to different ways of conceptualising the relation between the media and concepts such as:

  • subjectivity
  • identity
  • perception
  • experience.

The module will introduce you to the key thinkers, traditions and debates in media and cultural studies and contributing disciplines.
