Health and Development (909N1)
30 credits, Level 7 (Masters)
Spring teaching
Despite 20th-century medical and technological advances, health status is desperately low in many parts of the world – millions of people lack access to basic services.
This module examines a selection of the major health challenges of the 21st century. It explores how changes in demography, the burden of disease and the relative roles of markets, states and civil society have affected health systems and responses. The module will seek to place the topics in historical context. It’ll identify new, emerging approaches to translate investments in facilities, personnel, drugs and other consumable goods into effective services that meet the needs of the poor.
