Spring teaching
In this module, you’ll examine the interplay between body and cinema, including the representation of the body in films. We will also explore how the body of the spectator and cultural formations of the body influence and shape cinema itself.
You will draw on a wide range of theoretical frames including film studies, psychoanalysis, gender studies, philosophy, feminism and cultural theory).
You’ll use these theories to consider a variety of themes, which may include:
- the body as resistance and force
- discipline and punishment
- notions of beauty, fashion and body image
- non-normative bodies and monstrosity
- disability and enfreakment
- bodies that challenge the sex/gender/sexuality continuum
- ageing and the body.

Contact hours and workload
This module is approximately 300 hours of work. This breaks down into about 55 hours of contact time and about 245 hours of independent study. The 5X社区视频 may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.
