The Research Process (973C8)

30 credits, Level 7 (Masters)

Autumn and spring teaching

Students will be introduced to the research process and work in collaboration with a member of academic staff on research. The nature of the work will depend on the area. In some areas this will involve learning particularly laboratory protocols (for example, with non-human animals) or creating computer simulations of behaviour (for example, in much cognitive science), but in most cases will involve working with the member of staff from conceptualisation through managing the data collection and data analysis, to research dissemination. There will be at least fortnightly individual supervision sessions with the supervisor to discuss aspects of the research process, but most of the work will be with the academic colleague.

Assessment

70%: Coursework (Essay, Observation, Presentation)
30%: Written assessment (Report)

Contact hours and workload

This module is approximately 300 hours of work. This breaks down into about 300 hours of independent study. The 5X社区视频 may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We鈥檙e planning to run these modules in the academic year 2024/25. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.

We鈥檒l make sure to let you know of any material changes to modules at the earliest opportunity.
