2020 Poster Exhibition

Please submit your poster as a PDF file uploaded to Canvas by the deadlines listed in the sections below. Please name your poster in the following format: yourname-degree-printsize.pdf

Please note: the School cannot guarantee printing of your poster after the submission deadline).

This is an annual event which gives students the opportunity to present a poster detailing their project work in an informal way to faculty, fellow students, the Informatics Industrial Advisory Board and selected external guests.

This is an excellent opportunity for students to:

  • focus and reflect on project work
  • set targets
  • inform potential employers, faculty and colleagues
  • gain important feedback
  • gain invaluable experience by presenting work and ideas
  • network with potential employers

The idea of the poster exhibition is for participants to present a coherent story of what they are working on.

This is an annual event which gives you the opportunity to present a poster of your project in an informal way to faculty, your fellow students, the Informatics Industrial Advisory Board and selected external guests.

Who?  MSc Advanced Computer Science students (10% of the project weighting).

It is a very good opportunity to think about the scope of your project and will be very useful in helping you to plan the rest of your work. Perhaps most importantly, the event provides a chance for you to get some feedback and ideas from your peers, members of faculty and industry guests.  At previous years' events a number of projects attracted interest from attending companies, with students being offered interviews and collaboration.

This is an annual event which gives you the opportunity to present a poster of your project in an informal way to faculty, your fellow students, the Informatics Industrial Advisory Board and selected external guests.

All Second year PhD/MPhil students must take part.

Producing a poster is an integral part of the 2nd year Progression Review.  
2nd Year PGR students are required to submit a poster as part of their Student's Report in their Progression Review.

PGR students - a poster to a design of your choice following the size options below:

A2 - portrait or landscape.

A1 (preferred size) - portrait or landscape

A0 - portrait only.

Content and format should be like a poster for an academic conference/workshop.  

The audience will be faculty and fellow students from across the School, so make it accessible to them all — assume less technical background than you would for a presentation to researchers just in your area.

The poster will be judged on:

1) How easy its content is to understand

2) It’s coherence (clarity and conciseness)

3) Precision (accurate and unambiguous)

4) Visual appeal (graphical presentation and style). 

 

Suggestion: base your design on a poster you think communicates well.

First year PGR students on the research methods course will be the judges.   

Networking Opportunities

It is a very good opportunity to think about the scope of current project work, and will be very useful in helping plan the rest of the work. Perhaps most importantly the exhibition provides participants with a chance to get some feedback and ideas from peers, members of faculty and industry guests.

At previous years' events, a number of projects attracted interest from attending companies with students being offered interviews and collaboration opportunities.  All full-time Masters students and those in the second year of a part-time Masters are strongly encouraged to participate.
