Undergraduate study

Anthropology is the comparative study of cultures and societies. At Sussex we ask big questions about what we all have in common but also about the differences between communities and groups of people across the world.

    You can study Anthropology on its own as a single-honours course, choose electives, or combine it with subjects including history, international relations and geography to broaden your studies and explore your areas of interest
  • You'll be trained in research methods, techniques and skills used by anthropologists throughout your course. With the support of your lecturers, you’ll conduct research projects in a range of international and UK topics

  • You'll benefit from the department’s international outlook through opportunities to do a work placement overseas. You can also apply to study abroad for a term or year as part of your degree at a variety of destinations
  • You will be prepared for a range of careers with 100% of Anthropology BA students in work or further study six months after graduating (HESA EPI). Not only will you gain a broad knowledge of anthropology, but you'll also learn research and analytical skills. These skills will prepare you for a range of jobs, including development work for NGOs and government organisations.
