English for Refugees scheme
We offer a number of free places on the Intensive English programme to people from forced migrant backgrounds on our English for Refugees scheme. Students on the scheme receive 15 hours of English language tuition a week over the course of 22 weeks, with a view to progressing into higher education and/or work.
The scheme is run in partnership with Brighton and Hove City Council.

Sussex Migration Law Clinic
The Sussex Migration Law Clinic is situated in the 5X社区视频 Law School. Under the supervision of a registered solicitor or barrister, our final year law students offer immigration and asylum legal advice on a pro bono (cost-free) basis to members of the public who require advice in this area of law.
Since it began taking clients in February 2019, the clinic has provided clients with advice and assistance in relation to asylum claims, including appeals to the Upper Tribunal and fresh claims, applications for leave to remain on the basis of family life under Article 8 ECHR, applications for family reunion and citizenship.

We have an active and engaged STAR Group at Sussex who campaign for equal access to education and support forced migrants in becoming part of the local community in Brighton.

International student support
If you are a current student at Sussex on a Tier 4/Student visa, and you are considering applying for asylum (or have already applied), you should . Although the advisers will not be able to give immigration advice on asylum or the process of claiming asylum, they can provide information on how your current Student visa will be affected. They will also direct you to other members of the 5X社区视频 who need to know about changes to your immigration status in the UK and who can provide guidance on how to maintain your student status while any asylum applications are being processed. There are also a range of other available at the 5X社区视频 which current students can access.
