On this module, you’ll build on knowledge from land law to explore the intersection between land use and environmental law.
You’ll critically examine:
- theories of property and alternative models of land ownership
- property mechanisms like conservation covenants for environmental protection
- nature conservation legislation and its role in regulating land use
- legal protections for landscapes and their underlying rationale
- the legal framework for public access to land for recreational activities
- regulation of agricultural land use, focusing on biodiversity, food security and climate change resilience.
This module equips you with a critical perspective on dominant norms and structures in land law and their environmental implications.
Module learning outcomes
- Demonstrate an understanding of different concepts of property and an ability to critically evaluate these different concepts.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the law relating to land in specific policy contexts and be able to critically analyse the efficacy of the relevant laws.
- Demonstrate familiarity with the appropriate legal instruments and some of the relevant critical literature.
