Physics Foundation Year Laboratory B
Module code: F3304
Level 3 (sub-degree)
15 credits in spring semester
Teaching method: Laboratory, Lecture, Workshop
Assessment modes: Coursework
A preliminary laboratory course, with experiments in optics and electromagnetism. Integral to the course will also be the continued development of data-analysis and error propagation skills using spreadsheets, and also communication of scientific methods and results in a written report.
Module learning outcomes
- Use simple scientific apparatus to carry out experiments in optics and electromagnetism.
- Demonstrate understanding of physical principles underlying classical physics experiments.
- Analyse data, including line-fitting, error propagation techniques, and evaluation of residuals.
- Write a scientific report with appropriate structure and content and to an appropriate level.
