Curriculum Knowledge 1: Explorers and Investigators (X6613)

30 credits, Level 4

Autumn and spring teaching

On this module, you’ll focus on developing secure subject and curriculum knowledge for teaching, drawing from established curriculum models and published guidance in policy and research.

You’ll build confidence in understanding core knowledge, second-order concepts, processes, and subject-specific skills for each curriculum area. A key emphasis will be on how strong literacy and numeracy skills underpin effective curriculum design and student progression, and how skilled teachers use this to create rich, engaging learning sequences.

A key part of this module is the cross-curricular theme of “Explorers and Investigators”, which helps you develop broad subject knowledge and understanding of the world, with a focus on science, history, and geography. You’ll explore the connections between planning, active learning, assessment, feedback and differentiation, all aimed at promoting student engagement and progress.

Throughout the module, you’ll experience and reflect on effective teaching strategies in action.
