Spring teaching

On this module, you'll deepen your understanding of how power operates in relation to law, society, the state, governance, and rights.

You'll draw on a range of interdisciplinary approaches, including legal, political, critical, social, feminist, and postcolonial theory, to examine how power functions within the modern state and intersects with globalised political, legal, cultural, gender, and economic relations.

Key topics covered include:

• theories and historical accounts of legitimacy
• democracy
• globalisation
• human rights.

Contact hours and workload

This module is approximately 150 hours of work. This breaks down into about 29 hours of contact time and about 121 hours of independent study. The 5XÉçÇøÊÓƵ may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2024/25. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.
