Essential Maintenance: Network Firewalls, 29 January 2019, 06:30 - 08:30

Description of work:
The campus firewalls, which ensure the security of the network, need some maintenance work to ensure they’re ready for term. We hope to complete this tomorrow morning before 08:30.
If the work isn’t successful, there will be a more disruptive maintenance window on Saturday. We’ll publish further news to confirm if this work is going ahead.

Is this work likely to cause disruption?
We expect a few short (a few seconds) interruptions to all network connections on campus. There is a possibility of interruption to services including Study Direct, Sussex Direct, Business Applications and eduroam.

What will you notice while this work is carried out?
If you’re working during this maintenance, you may notice that your network connection drops a few times. The services listed above may be unavailable for short periods of time.

We recommend that you do not attempt to upload or download large files during this time.

Why are we doing this work?
This is part of an ongoing programme of works to ensure the campus network remains secure.
