Service catalogue

Our Service Catalogue is a list of services provided by IT Services to members of the 5XÉçÇøÊÓƵ of Sussex and certain categories of visitors.

Each service within the catalogue typically includes a brief description of the service and how to access it, who is entitled to use/request the service, details of availability and service maintenance, and links to further information. This is intended to help improve knowledge within the 5XÉçÇøÊÓƵ of the range of services we currently provide and to help users get more out of them. The range of services offered is reviewed annually with the 5XÉçÇøÊÓƵ IT Consultative Group.

Summary

Provides access to appropriate IT services for current members of the 5XÉçÇøÊÓƵ with individual IT accounts. The service uses the central database of student and staff records to determine eligibility when creating, maintaining and deleting accounts.

Permitted users

  1. Members of the 5XÉçÇøÊÓƵ.
  2. Students enrolled with the International Study Centre (SGI).
  3. Other groups by special arrangement .

Gaining access

  1. Online registration (5XÉçÇøÊÓƵ students only).
  2. By visiting the Service Desk during opening hours (staff and students).
  3. By completing the appropriate webform.

Hours of operation

Service Desk: Normal Working days Mon-Fri 0900-1900 (term-time); 0900-1730 (vacation).

Supported period

Normal working days.

Change control

Service provision reviewed annually.

ITS Responsibilities

  1. To create, maintain and delete accounts according to current 5XÉçÇøÊÓƵ policy.
  2. To staff the Service Desk during advertised hours of operation
  3. To offer group and individual IT induction sessions to new 5XÉçÇøÊÓƵ staff and students.
  4. To send a response to an online support query within one normal working day.

Service user responsibilities

  1. Users should produce identification on request, e.g. valid student card, staff card, or other proof of 5XÉçÇøÊÓƵ membership
  2. Staff and students are also strongly advised to attend the 5XÉçÇøÊÓƵ’s IT induction sessions. For students arriving in September, large group induction sessions will normally be part of the central induction programme in Welcome Week. Individual or small group induction sessions are offered to staff throughout the year.

Detailed service description

All current students and staff of the 5XÉçÇøÊÓƵ are eligible to apply for a computing account.

Most new students are pre-registered with computing accounts which they can obtain before they arrive by completing ‘online 5XÉçÇøÊÓƵ Registration’.  Information on how to do this is sent in an email to their personal email address before they arrive.

Staff (and students who were not offered "online 5XÉçÇøÊÓƵ Registration") should come to the IT Service Desk in Shawcross, with their student or staff card.  Once their eligibility has been confirmed, their computing account will normally be created and activated within one working day.

The service relies on authentication.

Requests for IT Services accounts for new members of staff should be submitted, via webform, by the School administrator or the new member of staff s manager, giving as much notice as possible:

When students and staff leave the 5XÉçÇøÊÓƵ, their computing account will be closed.

Definitions

Normal working days
These are defined for all ITS services as Monday – Friday inclusive, but excluding Bank Holidays and 5XÉçÇøÊÓƵ Minimum Service Days.
Scheduled Maintenance
IT username and password
These are the login credentials, issued by IT Services to registered students and current staff of the 5XÉçÇøÊÓƵ, enabling access to email, workstations and other services requiring authentication.

New and changed services

Information about changes to services including any scheduled maintenance, are posted on the IT Services website and distributed by the IT Services Facebook, Twitter and RSS feed. Current service status traffic light information is also displayed on the IT Services website.

User responsibilities

All service users are expected to abide by the rules and regulations described in Regulations for the use of Information and Communication Technology and to report faults, as they arise, to IT Services.
