Quantum Computing (979G5)
Quantum Computing
Module 979G5
Module details for 2022/23.
15 credits
FHEQ Level 7 (Masters)
Module Outline
On this module, you will learn about quantum computation, providing its motivations and the foundation to describe quantum information processing on a hardware-independent level. You will learn the basic computational model, including its mathematical underpinnings, and the key intuitions behind its most famous algorithms.
Students who enrol in this module should be familiar with (or prepared to quickly learn about) complex numbers, matrices, eigenvalues, and boolean logic.
Module learning outcomes
Describe the difference between quantum states and randomness
Analyse and interpret simple quantum processes
Present simple communication procedures, such as quantum teleportation
Describe potential applications of quantum computing technology
