Module Outline
An introductory module covering:
- Temperature, heat, phase change and thermal expansion
- Mechanisms of heat transfer
- The ideal gas law and kinetic theory
- Thermodynamics
- Simple harmonic motion and elasticity
- Static fluids and fluids in motion
Module learning outcomes
Analyse and identify the correct physics concepts in problems involving heat, thermal energy, thermodynamics, simple harmonic motion, elasticity, fluid dynamics.
Mathematically solve simple problems involving heat, thermal energy, thermodynamics, simple harmonic motion, elasticity, fluid dynamics.
Demonstrate a sufficient understanding in the material of the module for subsequent core modules in physics and engineering which include properties of matter.
