Robot Design and Implementation

Module H7123Z

Module details for 2025/26.

15 credits

FHEQ Level 6

Module Outline

The module involves the knowledge and understanding of key robotics concepts including kinematics, dynamics, control and motion planning. It introduces general robotic components such as end-effector, joint, link, actuator and sensor.

The module also involves a project component. Students in teams propose, design and demonstrate a robotic system to achieve a function or to complete a task. Students apply the knowledge of robotics and mechanical and electronics engineering to realize a physical robotic system. They are familiarized with design, modelling, control, implementation and analysis of such a system, and acquire experience of project management and team work, and practical skills of communication, presentation and report writing.

Module learning outcomes

Apply the knowledge of robotics, mechanical and electronics engineering and take an integrated approach to addressing real-world engineering problems.

Design, analyse, and implement a physical robotic prototype.

Understand and apply selection of components, materials, and fabrication processes for realising designed solutions.

Communicate the technical information and justify the design and implementation of a robotics project to specialist and non-specialist audiences.

Please note that the 5XÉçÇøÊÓƵ will use all reasonable endeavours to deliver courses and modules in accordance with the descriptions set out here. However, the 5XÉçÇøÊÓƵ keeps its courses and modules under review with the aim of enhancing quality. Some changes may therefore be made to the form or content of courses or modules shown as part of the normal process of curriculum management.

The 5XÉçÇøÊÓƵ reserves the right to make changes to the contents or methods of delivery of, or to discontinue, merge or combine modules, if such action is reasonably considered necessary by the 5XÉçÇøÊÓƵ. If there are not sufficient student numbers to make a module viable, the 5XÉçÇøÊÓƵ reserves the right to cancel such a module. If the 5XÉçÇøÊÓƵ withdraws or discontinues a module, it will use its reasonable endeavours to provide a suitable alternative module.
