Design of Digital Communication Systems
Module H6106Z
Module details for 2024/25.
15 credits
FHEQ Level 6
Module Outline
The module focuses on the design of digital communication systems which presents digital modulation followed by higher-level topics related to multiplexing, performance analysis, conventional multiple access in time and frequency domains, and information-theoretic concepts. The module is delivered by a series of lectures, exercise classes, and laboratory-based project work using MATLAB software, which provides skills important in the design and analysis of digital communication systems. Graduates are expected to be employed by a wide range of telecommunication-related industries.
Module learning outcomes
Review and demonstrate conceptual understanding to solve analytical and experimental problems
Apply knowledge and understanding to design and evaluate advanced performance metrics of digital communication transmission
Use of mathematical formulations to achieve advanced solutions and critically evaluate assumptions, concepts and design of digital communication systems
Able to describe signal characteristic and performance of digital transmission methods in different channel conditions.
Able to validate performance of different transmission and receiver methods using MATLAB software, and communicate advanced solutions effectively via the report
