Computer Aided Design (888H1)
Computer Aided Design
Module 888H1
Module details for 2025/26.
0 credits
FHEQ Level 7 (Masters)
Module Outline
This intensive zero credit module will give you the fundamental skills and knowledge to use computer aided design (CAD) tools as an engineer. You will learn to create sketches, components and whole assemblies to visualize your ideas and designs on a computer. Basics of motion analysis will also be covered in this module, helping you to investigate how your conceptual robot designs operate in 3-dimensional space. You will also learn how to create technical drawings for your designs, and you will understand and be able to apply basic tolerances in your drawings correctly. This module culminates in a rapid prototyping exercise, where you will design and manufacture a functioning machine using common rapid prototyping techniques – such as 3D printers, laser cutters, and CNC machines. With this exercise, you will understand important limitations and weaknesses of CAD, when it is applied to designing physical components and machines.
Module learning outcomes
Use CAD Tools to Create 2D/3D Sketches, Parts, and Assemblies
Understand the Basics of Technical Drawings and Tolerances
Create Simple Motion Analysis Simulations Using CAD Tools
