Module Outline
Outline
This module explores the nature of the operating environment for global business. It reviews the scale, scope and trends in global business activity and evaluates the various methods that firms can use to assess, enter and develop non-domestic markets. Factors that shape the international environment—such as the economic, socio-cultural, and legal environment, host and home country perspectives, trade and investment, integration, etc.—are evaluated. The way in which this environment shapes the organisation and management of global business is then considered.
Module aims
The main aim of this module is to develop an understanding of the nature of the operating environment for international business. The module extends the knowledge in the area of business and enables students to obtain a critical and practical understanding of the importance of environmental characteristics—such as culture, regulation, politics—which affect businesses in their daily activities.
Module learning outcomes
Understand the external forces which may impact on the operations of business organizations, understand how business organizations affect their external environments;
Understand interactions between internal working of business organizations and the external environment;
Demonstrate critical awareness of contemporary issues in the global business environment and comprehend its relevance and implications to managers
Systematically identify, critically evaluate, analyse and interpret information from a variety of different sources, develop critical thinking and the presentation of written arguments
