Module Outline
Protecting intellectual assets has become a key success factor for organisations in the knowledge-based economy. This course provides the knowledge and tools for managing intellectual property (IP), and how best to deploy and appropriate these to create value from the perspective of both private and public-sector organisations. More specifically, you will gain an understanding of IP strategies and approaches in multinational corporations, small and medium-sized enterprises as well as universities and research institutes. You will learn about patents and copyrights as instruments to protect IP as well as develop an understanding of less formal, alternative approaches.
Module learning outcomes
Develop and demonstrate a systematic and comprehensive understanding of the legal frameworks and other non-legal methods for protecting Intellectual Property.
Identify and apply critically the various approaches and methods to protect Intellectual Property in private and public sector organisations.
Assess and apply the different methods of enforcement of Intellectual Property.
Evaluate and creatively develop appropriate IP management strategies for different contexts.
