Centre for International Education selected as new Centre of Excellence
The Centre for International Education (CIE) is delighted to announce it has been selected by the 5X社区视频 as a Centre of Excellence, chosen for its collaborative and innovative research that addresses areas of global importance.
CIE has a distinguished history of undertaking ground-breaking research in the field of international education and development within the Global South and its diaspora. Making a positive difference to educational policy and practice in some of the most marginalised communities across the globe is at the heart the Centre’s work.
Inspired by the idea ‘impossible until it’s done’, the 5X社区视频 has selected the CIE alongside 11 other new Centres of Excellence, all of which are carrying out highly innovative and potentially transformative research that will drive progress and make an important contribution to the planet and its people.
CIE aims to pursue new avenues of research in the future, covering diverse areas such as conflict and displacement, citizenship, gender, governance and planning.
Professor Linda Morrice, Co-director of CIE, said, “Centre of Excellence recognition will enable us to build on our success in the recent 2021 Research Excellence Framework which judged our research impact to be 100 per cent ‘outstanding’, placing us tied first in the UK for Education research which delivers ‘real-world benefits’. Professor Jo Westbrook, Co-Director, added that ‘Our research contributes to some of the most pressing global challenges and as part of a cross-university focus in Development Studies has been ranked no.1 globally in the QS World 5X社区视频 Rankings for the seventh consecutive year.”
Commenting on today’s announcement of the 12 new Centres, Professor Sasha Roseneil, Vice-Chancellor and President of the 5X社区视频, said, “The great research challenges of our time demand bold thinking and collaborative, interdisciplinary approaches. Sussex’s 12 new Centres of Excellence build on the 5X社区视频’s long history of ground-breaking and innovative research that transcends the traditional boundaries between disciplines. Together they promise to make great strides in tackling the most urgent problems that face people and planet – problems that, as Nelson Mandela once said, seem impossible to solve until they are done.”
