What's new this term? A note from SussexFood

From feedback gained across the past year, the SussexFood team have made changes to better your taste buds, your pocket, the environment and your dietary requirements. You asked for more vegan, vegetarian and healthy options. You said you wanted more outlets, you also wanted more price flexibility, and you said we that we should “go even greener”. Here's what we’ve done in response to your great feedback.
Dine Central Eco Restaurant
Dine Central, which is open from 11.30am to 2.30pm weekdays, has completely changed its service system, aesthetic and daily food offer.
This hidden gem on the first floor of Bramber House has ditched the single-use plastic and gone eco. All drinks are either cans or glass bottles and we’ve dramatically reduced the amount of red meat in the restaurant.
We’ve introduced a selection of ‘build your own’ meal deals that piece together our fresh ‘core’ salad, all-new selection of ‘premium’ salads including the likes of chargrilled cauliflower, Mediterranean quinoa and pomegranate seeds, and finally a ‘protein’ to accompany your nutrient-packed lunch. All items are individually priced, giving you great flexibility - or you can choose a meal deal that suits you best.
The Wok Bar has also been upgraded; you start by selecting your base – for example, choose between rice noodles, egg noodles, buckwheat noodles, etc. You can pick which topping you’d like to add to the stir fry, such as tofu or shredded duck, and to finish this off you pick your own sauce – schechuan, hoisin, black bean – you name it!
ACCA Café
We’re now open for breakfast from 8.30am, with some great options you can’t get anywhere else on campus; this includes avocado on toast, quinoa fruit salad, and warming pancakes with toppings.
The lunch menu has correspondingly expanded, with a great range of salads.
We haven’t changed the coffee, though, as we hear it may be the best on campus!
Street food
We now have an additional street food van catering to your ‘dirty’ food cravings. The fresh Chick 'n' Pea van resides outside Eat Central by the benches on Bramber lawns that make it a perfect alfresco dining spot.
The street food van serves fried chicken, ‘dirty’ loaded fries, veggie burgers and more. Expect lots of cheese (vegan cheese is also available), chipotle sauce, crispy chicken and more delectable treats.
Our Bangin’ Burritos van has had an upgrade; not only does it look better but it has also had a menu re-vamp. Now you can get pulled pork, chicken, patatas bravas and guacamole - and that’s not all! The new burritos and (extensive) side menu certainly won’t leave you wanting more.
Updated food menu
SussexFood’s three-week rotating menus have been developed and now a number of new, hearty meals are available to you each day.
In Eat Central there has been the introduction of £4.50 Main Meals and an additional hot food station giving an even wider selection of meals. We’ve kept your favourites on the menu, too, with On the Pulse dishes from £3.20, jacket potatoes and the Quesadilla Bar, which is now open for longer hours.
New cakes and bakes from pastry chef Dave are also available across SussexFood cafés to help you with that morning and afternoon sugar craving.
You asked for more international snacks and we have delivered. In Jubilee café we now have a brand new range of sweet and savoury snacks, perfect for a pre-lunch snack!
5X社区视频 Mugs for Life
If you haven’t yet noticed, our pricing system for hot drinks has altered.
Now, if you want to purchase a hot drink in a disposable cup, there will be an added charge. This charge has been introduced to encourage the use of reusable cups and mugs across campus.
If you use a reusable cup, you still receive a discount on your coffee or tea compared to the standard price before our coffee pricing system changed - so you aren’t losing out one bit, you’re gaining if you bring a cup in more ways than one!
The amount of disposable coffee cups used every day in the UK amounts to 7 million and this is something SussexFood want to help tackle and reduce. Rather than seeing these non-recyclable cups go to landfill, our new pricing system provides further motivation for customers to use a re-useable cup instead.
To aid with this, throughout Welcome Week and continuing on, SussexFood have distributed a vast quantity of 5X社区视频 Mugs for Life for free. We are still doing giveaways across campus and you can find where these take place through social media posts.
Giving out these mugs provide staff and students with no excuse to purchase a disposable cup – you can use one we have given you and save your pennies and the planet. For every 10 mugs we buy, the Mugs for Life company plant a tree – so far we’ve planted 500 trees!
Keep up to date with what’s new and be the first to hear about our competition giveaways at SussexFood by following us on social media.
